TA-DA

I feel so pleased! I did something cute! I made a header. Cuteness is a rarity for me. I am more of what I would say a "functional" sort of person. With digital scrapbooking, perhaps I can obtain the ever-elusive cute craftiness I have always secretly admired. Hooray!

So today Mike said that his mom gave him some rice pudding on his ride to the bus stop. "Oh," I said. "That's nice." Then it hit me. Rice pudding is a dessert! Mike claimed that rice pudding was not a dessert and then the argument devolved into ratios comparing the amount of sugar in canned peaches to rice pudding. All I wanted was to taste one of the pumpkin pie treats that Jenn brought over today, in exchange for Mike's eating the rice pudding. But Mike insists that he did not lose and won't budge. I was sorely, sorely tempted to just pop one of the delicious smelling (and looking) bites into my mouth, and declare myself the winner, but then I would have lost the high ground and a part of me (the part that dislikes rice pudding) thinks yeah, not a dessert. What do you think? Rice pudding (1/2 c. of sugar in recipe) a dessert or not?

Other family fun: Last week we took our new sleds and went sledding at the park. It lasted two hills since we chose a windy and freezing day to do it. The park by our house has the gentlest, shortest hill, which is fun if you are two. We'll have to go on the bigger hills when I feel braver. (Not for myself, but for Kenzie). My brother Jared came along, and Kenzie had a fun time ordering him around. Jared is back in Nebraska, getting smarter. We loved having him visit though.

I'm glad Steph gave me a heads up as to these last 2 posts so that I could proclaim my innocence. First of all, I do want to give her a hickey on her neck if and when I win. Secondly, 1/4 cup of sugar in one can of peaches or 1/2 cup sugar in a HUGE batch of rice pudding. I remember growing up having rice pudding in the fridge for days after my mom made it. Think of the above mentioned ratios of sugar. I mean, how much liquid can you possibly fit in a bottle of peaches? Believe me, I used to open peach jars and just drink the juice. Yes, this terribly upsets the balance of peaches and peach juice, something my siblings despised horribly. Any hoot, 2 cups of juice tops, the rest of the volume is taken up by peaces. I will assume 4 adult servings in a peach bottle. Thus, a serving size of 1/2 cup of peach juice has 1/16 cup of sugar (which also corresponds to the amount of juice we give our 10 month old baby on a daily basis). Now, I called my mother to get the exact figures. One batch of rice pudding is made with 4 cups of milk and 1/2 cup of sugar. So, in 1/2 cup of milk, absorbed by let's say 1/4 cup of rice (I think that is a lot of rice, too), I would have 1/8 cup of sugar. Aha you say, Stephanie is right. Well, that may very well be, but, I told Steph that I would consider rice pudding a dessert if and only if an equivalent serving size of peaches had less than half of the sugar as rice pudding, which, according to my above calculations, is not the case. Rice pudding has twice the sugar per serving as peaches. Maybe I should analyze her jam or syrup next? Those concoctions involve cups of sugar to cups of dissolved liquid... My friends, you get the point. This exercise shows that my dear Stephanie is fabricating stories so that she can SAY she wins. She dang near ate all those pumpkin bites because she was convincing herself that I lost.

Mike and I are no longer on speaking terms. We now only communicate through this web site. :) Not really. But, he refuses to listen to reason. Peaches are way better for you than rice pudding--and I don't drink the juice from peaches. And I didn't eat any pumpkin bites--not one.

Stephanie is the winner if for no other reason it is called Rice PUDDING and pudding is indeed a dessert! Besides, keep those hickeys to yourself or I'll be down for a visit. G-BR

PS Cute header Stephanie.

Okay, I was going to say what Bette said. That is YOU Bette, right? That it is totally a dessert because it has the word PUDDING in it. End of STORY! Stephanie wins. HANDS DOWN!!!

And the hickey thing. I'm glad you cleared that up since I was just so curious and all. Stephanie left that WIDE OPEN for sick minds.

Steph, the header is fab. You did it. I'm so proud!!!

that's me at the bottom. Don't know why it says anonymous, but look how much I've gotten your comment tally up. You're welcome.

Dido- you need to quit using such "engineer" terms when you write. Like the above formentioned comment, it was boring! ha ha. But Kevin eats that nasty rice pudding all the time, morning, noon or night. I don't know why it looks nasty. But since it has Rice in it and pudding in it... it could actually be a 2 course meal! Hang in there Steph, Mike will lose don't worry.

Nice header Steph! "Pudding" = dessert!
Do you remember our no chocolate challenge in college? Remember the stakes? Whoever ate chocolate before the agreed date (I think it was Easter because we knew we couldn't last without chocolate on Easter) had to sing at the top of their lungs the song "I'm a little teapot" on a FULL Weber shuttle bus. I was so terrified of the consequences that I actually did it! Those were the days, now I can't last a day. I should come up with a challenge with Trevor but then it might just lead to a bunch of fighting like you and Mike. heehee, just kidding :)
P.S. thanks again for the help with the template

Cute header Steph! You two make me laugh. I could picture Mike trying to defend himself. I would have to say pudding = dessert.

You guys are so cool! Megan was watching me on the computer and I decided to tell her about my friends in the picture (on your blog). I imagine that everyone who knows you admires you as much as I do. Anyway...back to the blog. Kathryn told me she wants to work out...I said OK. I'll watch and if she diets, I get more food. You see, these things are different in our house. I wish I was more fun:) Mike...if you get into a serious situation don't be scared...I am sure there loop holes...for example: she never put a timeline on the trip, and how can you be really sure that is really where she wants to go...and is it really her choice or was she influenced by others;)

Rice pudding is a dessert. we serve it at the Garden when we can't think of anything that really tastes good.

Mike, I know this is probably old news, but I'm on your side (of course). When I was younger, my mom would make a variation of rice pudding in a huge pot...for dinner!!! Definitely not dessert (Matt Pebley)
